Automatic thumbnail generation is optional and must first be enabled under Responsive Mockup > Settings.
Generate a thumbnail #
- Open a client project.
- Set the website URL and default layout.
- Publish or update the project.
- Choose Generate thumbnail.
- Wait for WordPress.com mShots to render the unlisted canvas.
When successful, the plugin downloads the PNG into the local WordPress Media Library and assigns it as the project’s featured image. The portfolio does not depend on WordPress.com to display an already stored image.
Regenerate after a change #
Update the project first, then choose Generate thumbnail again. The plugin changes its capture version so mShots treats it as a fresh request instead of returning an older cached image.
If the image does not update #
- Allow extra processing time and refresh the edit screen.
- Confirm that WordPress can make outbound HTTPS requests and write to the uploads directory.
- Check whether the embedded website itself blocks rendering.
- Use a manually uploaded featured image when a remote site cannot be captured reliably.
Privacy: the unlisted canvas URL and embedded website are sent to WordPress.com only when an administrator explicitly generates a thumbnail.
